On Idol

Friday, April 18, 2008

Idol never fails to give so much entertainment, well sa akin. Each season has something unique to offer. The seventh installment of the show, I do believe despite early criticisms, pambabash and all, is one of the best and most interesting seasons of idol. Season 5 still tops my list.

Here are some thoughts on the show and the finalists.

Best performance?

So far, David Cook holds the best performance of the season award with his rendition of Billie Jean. It wasn’t original but was truly phenomenal. It gave him the chance to get into the final two with David Archuleta. However, his performance during the Mariah week was overrated. It wasn’t really that great. Different yes, original yes, good enough yes, but a winning performance? I don’t think so. But I must say, he is the most consistent finalist, and if things won’t change, I mean with all the hype on his performances, he won’t lose his ticket to the finale. Ooops, one thing will take that ticket away from him, mayabang ang dating nya.

Who’s the dark horse?

Definitely, Jason Castro is this season’s dark horse. Tatahi-tahimik

pero nagkakaroon ng impact sa audience. I agree with Paula, he’s very defintive, and he sticks to his style throughout the competition. Another thing, his type of music has a solid audience. Some people may not appreciate his style, pero yung mga nakakaappreciate, I’m one of them, loyal sila so they’ll continue to support Jason.

Now the season’s underdog

Naman. No debate ito. Si Syesha Mercado and underdog. She consistently delivers very good performances, but is always compared with the original singers of the songs she picks. The judges, except for Paula coz she really appreciates Syesha’s performances should atleast give her credit for attempting to make these songs her own. Feeling ko successful naman sya e. Her version of Beatle’s Yesterday is soooo underrated. It was one of the most heartfelt moments this season. And America listens to the judges most of the time, especially to Mr. Cowell.

Potentially great but picks wrong songs

I’m referring to Carly Smithson, the Irish girl who gave so much impact at the start of the competition. I didn’y like her at first, pero love ko na sya ngayon. I agree with Simon, she’s potentially great, but there’s lacking in all her performances. Maybe it’s the song choices. Oh yeah, she picks the wrong songs. But I still believe in her. I actually want to see her in the finale with Archuleta.

Fading slowly

Brooke White was my early bet. After her Let It Be performance, minahal ko na sya. Brooke with her piano, amazing! Kaya lang, medyo limited talaga ang kakayahan ni Brooke vocally, so limited din ang songs na pwedeng kantahin lalo pa at may particular theme each week. However, picking songs that perfectly suit her voice and style, and please please please perform with the piano, Brooke can get further. But I don’t think she’ll win.

Guaranteed ticket to the finale goes to..

David Archuleta!

Overrated contestants, many times were voted out of the competition, but not David Archuleta. He’ll sail all the way through the finale. His charisma, vocal prowess, and humahumble na attitude make him the frontrunner of the show. I can now hear him singing the new idol song with all these backup singers wearing blue cloth. Anong tawag dun? And the confetti?? Hmm….

Who’s next to go?

Not the Davids.
